What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the volatile fluid inside of plants. Some experts consider them the life — or essence-of the plant. It’s what gives plants their fragrances and their ability to fight infections & diseases, heal themselves, repair damaged tissue, and rid themselves of toxic substances and free radicals.

Just a few of the attributes that make Essential Oils  so remarkable are their:

POTENCY

VOLATILITY

and

VERSATILITY

POTENCY: Essential Oils are 100 to 10,000 times more concentrated than herbs which is why you’ll see faster and better results when using them.

FOR EXAMPLE: it takes approx. 5,000 lbs of rose petals to produce one pint of rose essential oil and for every ton of grapefruit, you get about 1.5 lbs of oil.

VOLATILITY: VOLATILE - adjective: (of a substance) capable of readily changing from a solid or liquid form to a vapour; having a high vapour pressure and a low boiling point.

Atmospheric pressure is all that is required to begin changing essential oils from a liquid into a gas. In this form they can be breathed in and through the limbic system quickly and profoundly impacting the mind and emotions. Their chemical nature allows them to be quickly absorbed and pass rapidly through biological barriers and into the bloodstream and critical tissues without going through the normal digestive pathways.

VERSATILITY: Essential Oils can be used therapeutically as aromatics, internally and topically. They can be effective by themselves or mixed with other oils in a blend. They can also help neutralize toxins, serve in place of harmful chemicals and they can enhance the effects of other positive substances in household, personal care and nutritional products.

What can essential oils be used for?

Essential oils can be used for almost anything you can think of. They don’t just treat… they help keep all of your body systems working optimally. Often while taking or using essential oils people will see many other improved benefits they had not been expecting.

Using  essential oils, you can make your own all-natural, non-toxic version of almost every product in your home from beauty products to cleaning supplies and everything in between!

How to apply essential oils:

There are 3 WAYS to apply essential oils.  Topically, Aromatically, Internally. The way we apply oils varies depending on the need… sometimes the issue might require a topical application, sometimes an internal or for other things, like emotional issues, inhalation is best.  You will find information on each bottle which tells you the best way to use that oil.

TOPICALLY

  • Apply on the “problem area” (Some applications might require dilution).

  • Reference the dilution ratio chart for single oils on pages 42-43 of the pocket guide and page 128 for oil blends.

  • Apply on temples, behind ears, back of neck, or chest for anything systemic.

  • Rub oils on the feet, hands and spine, for specific needs, per the locations described on the charts on pages 189-193 of the pocket guide.

AROMATICALLY

  • Diffuse oils into the room with your Young Living diffuser, this is especially effective for emotional issues.

  • Smell oil straight from the bottle.

  • Cup hands over nose and inhale after a topical application.

  • Put a drop of oil into your hands, rub them together, cup over nose/mouth and breathe deeply for 2 minutes.

INTERNALLY

  • Drop a few drops of oil into a capsule and take it by mouth.

  • Always drink with a full cup of water and follow the pocket guide instructions for each oil, and the GRAS list located on page 30 of the pocket guide.

  • Drop a few drops of oil into non-iced water, a smoothie, tea, juice, or other fluid.

  • Use various oils in cooking recipes like cinnamon, clove, lime, lemon, peppermint, oregano, and thyme.
